Jennifer's Notes: Spring Semester 2016

February 11, 2016

As I write this post, I’m watching the snow swirl outside of my window - our second snowstorm in less than a week. I’m sure you’ve heard me encourage folks who are new to winter to find something to love about this season - the beauty of the freshly fallen snow, the moments of bright sunshine after days of gray, an activity like ice skating or snowshoeing, or even a delicious cup of hot chocolate (try Burdick’s in Harvard Square).

But if winter really isn’t your thing and you’re still having trouble making peace with it, then distract yourself with MIT Spouses & Partners Connect’s event and groups. In addition to our usual lineup of weekly meetings, Career Connect sessions, biannual Kids Clothing Exchange, and interest groups, we have some exciting programs in the works….

Getting Sexy Back:  My former colleague Divya Kumar will be back on campus on February 29th to talk about reclaiming sex and intimacy after baby arrives. If you are a new parent or are expecting a baby or just contemplating pregnancy, this workshop is for you and your partner. Divya will discuss the physical, psychological, and emotional aspects of parenthood that impact sexuality, and also how couples can rediscover their sexual connection after baby.

MIT’s Open House: On April 23, MIT will open its doors to the public, and MIT Spouses & Partners Connect will be one of the organizations showcasing their role at the Institute. Our Theater Acting will be sharing some scenes from their end of semester performance. Come and see what our talented members can create together.

Fun for the whole family: Some of our most successful recent events have been our collaborations with campus partners. This semester, we will partner with the MIT Postdoctoral Association to organize a Dessert Contest, where you can show off your culinary skills and enjoy a sweet evening with friends and family.  Later in the spring, together with the Eastgate and Westgate communities, we will be working together to host a Holi party, the Indian festival of colors. Subscribe to our weekly email to get all the details - you will not want to miss these events!

What makes this all possible? The relationships we have cultivated with campus partners over the years and the amazing volunteers of MIT Spouses & Partners Connect! If you want to get involved, just email us at spousesandpartners@mit.edu - we welcome your contributions of time, talent, and energy.

So put on your snow boots and mittens and come on out to our groups and events. I know it can be tough to leave the house on a cold and windy day, but you won’t regret it!

I look forward to sharing another great semester with all of you,
Jennifer
