I grew up in China, and have lived in 5 countries during the past 17 years: Singapore, Canada, France, Italy, and the USA. Transitions can be challenging emotionally and physically, but they provided me with so many opportunities to develop my potential beyond my own imagination. I am passionate in helping other relocated internationals adapt to changes in their environment and transform challenges into opportunities for personal change and growth.
My advice for MIT spouses:
Grow together with your spouse. You have moved to Boston to support your spouse to achieve his/her dream, but that does not mean you have to give up yours. It is a wonderful experience for a couple to grow together. Try to find something meaningful to do in Boston such as studying, volunteering, or working.
Don’t give up your opportunities just because they don’t fit with your spouse’s future plan: his/her plan might change tomorrow. When opportunities present themselves to you, it is ok that you make your own plans, and be ready to modify them later if necessary.
