On the 7th of May MIT celebrated the 100th anniversary of its move from Boston to Cambridge with a day of events and a parade; all the MIT community was invited to cross the Charles river to recall that moment. Spouses & Partners members joined other MIT groups and associations to march together and show our pride and happiness for being part of this community and this amazing group!

The day started with a morning gathering before the parade to share our thoughts about this experience; we drew billboards and we wrote messages on them in our own native languages. Thanks to clement weather the parade started without inconvenience from the Boston side of Mass Avenue and, after crossing the Charles, ended in front of the Dome. All the groups paraded before a stage where the judges stood, observing the presentations and the greetings that each group prepared to represent itself and its history. For the occasion we prepared a little choreography and it was a lot of fun for us performing it together and sharing this beautiful and exciting experience! Standing in front of the judges we hugged, kissed, greeted and bowed to each other to send across our own message: “-You are welcome here and you are not alone! Let’s share this journey together! -“. This is also the S&P mission, connecting people, guiding them to integrate in our community and feel part of it. For 25 years S&P has been actively present to support spouses, partners and families who first arrive at MIT in many ways, promoting the process of integration and participation in the life of the community.

Each of us at the parade originally came from a different part of the world, now all gathered in the same place, united by the same destiny which brought us here. We crossed the world to cross that bridge, and marching together we wrote a little piece of MIT history!
