Ice Skating Event
by Mayra Bezerra Hartmann
The Ice Skating event was held on Sunday, December 7th, at the Community Ice Skating rink at Kendal Square. It was organized by MIT spouses&partners and the MIT Postdoc Association to celebrate the end of the year. It was a very cold night, but that did not deter people from venturing out to enjoy the skating and meeting up with friends. Around one hundred people turned out, among them families with small children and first time ice-skaters experiencing the best that winter has to offer. Besides free skates for children, and free entrance to the rink, the organization committee provided fun food: hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks, and around 16 volunteers helping to serve everyone. It was a lot of fun!

Career Connect
By Christelle Perrin
This year we had the chance to kick-off the fall series of the Career Connect Program with a talk by Professor Ofer Sharone (MIT Sloan) providing a comparative perspective on job searching in the U.S.A. For the first time we also hosted a hiring managers panel and learn how they work with job candidates and employers to fill positions. (See article “Career Connect – Recruiters/Hiring managers panel” for a complete summary of the session).

We will continue to make this program grow and increase visibility in the MIT community. Thanks to Anu Vaarmann’s awesome poster, we presented the program during the “Collaborating for MIT’s Future” poster session and it received a lot of attention and positive comments.

Thanksgiving meal
By Christelle Perrin
MIT spouses&partners Thanksgiving meal is always one of our favorite and most popular events. It was a pleasure once again to see this huge and beautiful table of people. From turkey to pumpkin pie, everything was there along with recipes for everyone to appreciate this very special US tradition.

Kids’ Clothing Exchange
by Courtney Massey
In October 2014, MIT spouses&partners in collaboration with Harvard Students’ Spouses and Partners Association hosted the MIT Kids’ Clothing Exchange. This bi-annual event proved to be another great success as over 50 families walked away with free baby/children’s clothes, gear, toys, and books.

The next MIT Kids Clothing Exchange is scheduled for Spring 2015. Anyone interested in clearing out their kid’s (ages 0-5) closets or stocking up on spring or summer kids’ gear is encouraged to keep an eye out for more information!
